Day 18

Audrey is writing today.. 25km from rabanal del camino to molinaseca. WOW. What a beautiful scenic day with some rain but not bad. The scenery from the mountains was unbelievable. Hills and valleys covered with Spanish broom both yellow and white and lots of lavender.. We think. Many scenic views, pictures don't do justice. We had to watch every step as we walked on rocks for many kilometers. You have to be aware of the rock snakes, the same species as snow snakes on the ski hill.
We managed to avoid them thanks again to our awesome poles. Hooked up with our friend Kathleen and we are sharing a room with her tonight.

Today we were at the highest altitude since beginning the walk.. 1515m however it was gradual incline and more pronounced decline. Morgan did excellent and I was so thrilled to be walking with her again today.

Today, Bev and Linda, was the day I placed my Rebecca spit stone at the Cruz de ferro. Oh happy day. See photo. It was pouring rain at that point so we did not climb to the foot of the cross to lay my stone. I was thinking of you both when we were there. At the peak of our walk today we came across a weird hut with flags an flowers and signs from different countries. People seemed to be chatting and sharing tea in the hut. It was weird

We only stopped briefly once today so we were at our destination by 1.30. Once again we are treating ourselves to a three person room with Kathleen instead of 25. Yesterday's afternoon tea reminded me of downtown abbey. Looking forward to the last few episodes with the girls.

Still haven't had a feast of paella.. Gotta do that. We scrounged together a dinner last night.. Everyone was cooking eggs because the market had limited supplies. Plan to do the same tonight.

We wish we had extra days to spend in these villages that are so cute.

The albergue we stayed at last night is anxiously awaiting pilgrims with horses on Sunday. The volunteers were looking in their manual to see what they were supposed to do when horses arrive.. Needless to say they found nothing. Generally speaking pilgrims riding horses would not be accepted at an albergue

Missing vancouver island and all you sweet people

  1. Fabulous! Fabulous! Wish we could have been with you when you placed the stone at the Cruz, Audrey. Thought of you today when we did our "climb." Miss you both, L+B xoxo

  2. Sounds wonderful - you two should be so very proud for making the trip happen and for handling the challenges in your stride. Well done both of you! Phyllis and Wayne
